Booking Cheap International Flights from OR Tambo Airport
Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport is located in Kempton Park, just 36km from Sandton, the city’s main economic and tourist hub, and 28km from the city CBD. OR Tambo International is well known as the busiest airport in South Africa, offering access to hundreds of flight networks, to all 6 inhabited continents across the globe.
Formally known as Jan Smuts Airport, it received a major overhaul in the lead up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup. OR Tambo is now considered the gateway to the rest of the African continent, and an important travel base for many international business travellers.
Getting to and from OR Tambo International
OR Tambo International is serviced by South Africa’s first rapid railway transport system, the Gautrain, which is located in the airport’s transit terminal. The Gautrain delivers travellers directly to Sandton, the city’s central hotel and shopping district, as well as many other popular stops in Johannesburg.
The airport also offers a number of alternative services to get around the city, including: metred cabs, taxis, shuttle buses and car hire.
