Overview of Kotoka Airport

Kotoka International Airport occupies 1610 acres and is easily one of the busiest airports in Western Africa. Originally, the British Royal Air Force used Kotoka International as a military airport during World War II. Since then, the airport has undergone extensive expansion and refurbishment to become the highly successful commercial airport facility it is today.

In 2014, expansion of the arrivals hall in terminal three was launched and is set to be completed by July 2017. The expansion aims to ease congestion in the arrivals hall throughout peak hours, and increase handling capacity of Kotoka International, from 500 000 to 3 million passengers annually.

Additional works to the arrivals hall include fire detection and protection systems, installation of two new baggage carousels, 26 immigration booths and 10 e-gates, a mobile walkway and new air-conditioning systems.
