Getting to and from Bole International Airport

Travellers are well catered for upon arrival at Bole International, and have the option of choosing local mini bus shuttles, metred taxis or pre-organised bus and taxi shuttles via their hotel. If transport has not been pre-organised by a hotel, its recommended travellers make use of the local mini bus service that operates from 6am – 8pm.

The service delivers travellers to the popular Piazza district, Mexico Square and Meskal Square, and is generally very cheap. The drivers or ‘conductors’ are also very helpful in offering directions if needed.

In 2003, after an extensive three-phase refurbishment plan was rolled out, the international passenger terminal of Bole International was opened to the public. This terminal is one of Africa’s largest airport passenger terminals, capable of handling 3 000 passengers an hour.

The establishment of the international terminal cost a total of 1.8 billion Birr or US $130 million, making Bole International the world-class facility it is today.
